  1.  A macro lens is a camera lens designed for photographing small subjects at very close distances. They can focus much nearer than normal lenses, allowing you to fill the frame with your subject and capture more detail.

  2. All things considered, macro lenses with a focal length of between 90mm and 105mm are most popular.
  3. The autofocus, fast aperture and stabilizer are more for portraiture and general shortshooting than for macro photography, but it’s always nice for a lens to have multitasking capabilities.
  4. Macro lenses come in a variety of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto. The important thing to keep in mind is that the lens' focal length will determine your field of view, working distance available and background blur capable when photographing your subject.
  5. A setting on a digital camera that enables users to focus on subjects close to thecamera lens. Macro mode is commonly used to photographing flowers, insects and other small items that you want a close-up view of. The distance you can shoot inmacro mode from will differ between cameras.

  7. Macro lenses are expensive for a reason. That being, a true macro lens allows the photographer to capture finer detail than would otherwise have been seen. For example, the hairs on an insects face, or the pattern in its eye.

  9. Macro lenses can be used on subjects at more normal distances. They are not just for close up objects. You can shoot portraits with the 60mm or 105mm Micro for example, as those are good focal lengths for portraits.
  10. For starters, macro and micro usually refers to the same thing, in that Nikon names their range of 'macro lenses' with the word 'micro'. Canon on the other hand, calls them macro lenses. For example, Nikons top macro lens is called AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens.
